On the 6th June last year, Youth AOD workers from around Victoria completed surveys about the needs and characteristics of young people accessing Youth AOD services on that day.

The result was rich information about 1000 young people that provides the best understanding so far of the young people we support and their needs and characteristics.

The key findings include

  • a correlation between substance use severity and psycho social complexity
  • high levels of abuse and neglect experienced by young people in treatment
  • That specific populations have different needs
  • Developmental differences mean opportunities for earlier intervention.
