The discussion (and debate) about cannabis and psychosis is not short of contributors. New research is always welcome.

Over the decades descriptions of cannabis have varied from it being a benign, harmless drug to a substance that causes madness and mayhem (and everything in between). The discussion (and debate) about cannabis and psychosis is not short of contributors.  New research is always welcome.

A US study released this month suggests that having an increased family risk for schizophrenia may be the most significant factor for psychosis in cannabis users and not cannabis use by itself. The study found that for family members of patients with schizophrenia, there was no difference in risk for schizophrenia between those that used, or did not use cannabis.

An abstract of the study is available here.
