“Youth” Drug & Alcohol support services provide support for 12 – 25 year olds, read on to findout what comes next:
There are a huge amount of different residential and community based support options across Victoria which YoDAA can help connect your young person to, after a quick screener call with them to understand what’s going on, however if they are still looking for support after turning 25 they will need to do a bit more of the connection themself.
Who someone connects with in the Adult support sector is very much based on where they live; if you pop the suburb / postcode where your young person lives into this Service Finder you will be directed who to contact in the area. Next click on that service will guide you on what to expect from that service
Typically someone contacts their local intake service, they will do a short intake, then be booked to complete a slightly longer assessment document. This same assessment is used to connect to all types of adult AOD support so your young person could speak to the intake worker about which different service options to send it on to (ie community and residential support).
Your young person can make a request to be referred to a specific service, or take the intake worker’s guidance of which options best meet their needs. They would connect to the intake service closest to where you live, and to community support in this area too, but can be referred to any residential options across the state.
