Be careful when (if) you use again!

Having a slip-up or beginning to use again after a break is pretty normal but it can also throw up new risks.

One risk of using again after a break is the risk of overdose. You see when you take a drug for long enough and often enough your body can get used to it. Gradually, you need to use more to get the effect you are after. This is called tolerance.

When you stop using your tolerance reduces-usually much more quickly than it built up. So it means if you use again after a break it can be like you’ve never had that drug before.  If you use the same amount as in the past you may overdose. Did you know that lots of overdoses occur for people after a period of not using? Whether or not you planned to use again, staying safe is the most important thing.

Here are some tips to be as safe as you can if you haven’t used for a while.

  • Your first dose should be tiny. Try using at least a quarter of what you think a tiny amount is or what you used to use.
  • Don’t have any other drugs or alcohol in your system and don’t take anything else after you have used.
  • Be with someone when you use
  • Use in a regular safe place
  • Buy from your regular dealer and ask about strength and purity.

Following these tips and others can seem easier than it is, especially if you are in a hurry to use or you

want to get really wasted. If you want more advice on how you can stay as safe as you can, talk to YoDAA.
