Vaping

What is vaping?

Vapes are electronic devices that heat liquid chemicals and produce a vapour which is then inhaled. Vapes generally contain nicotine but other liquids can be vaped such as cannabis oil and methamphetamines.

There are a number of factors that impact how a young person might experience a drug, such as their location, gender, size, mood and if other drugs, alcohol or medication has been taken.

UNDERSTANDING:

Understanding more about why a young person might use vapes can help guide future conversations with them. Some young people might use vapes because their peer group is using them, they like the taste or think it is fun.

It is important to take a harm-reduction approach when a young person is vaping. This means it is important to educate yourself and the young person about the harms and risks associated with vaping so that they can make an informed choice about vaping.

Useful resources include this vaping lingo dictionary and these tips on harm reduction.
