Day programs are a great option as a safe place that also offer a bit of routine and learning

WHAT IS A DAY PROGRAM?

Day programs provide safe environments where you can access support and a sense of community.
Sometimes day programs are structured with a set routine and program of activities and other times they are less structured. Day programs usually involve participation with other young people.

WHAT HAPPENS?

Different programs offer a range of options but in general they can provide:
•    A safe place to spend time
•    Access to medical support
•    Health education
•    Life skills education
•    Peer support
•    Help to access other services you might need
•    Support with looking for jobs
•    Recreational activities
Some day programs also offer a safe place to be monitored if you have used drugs or alcohol.

WHAT COULD I EXPECT?

Day programs usually have activities and programs that run across a number of hours in a day. They are almost always group programs so usually you will be attending with several other people.
The video at the top of this page as well as this video are two examples of specific day programs run by YSAS. Not all day programs are the same but these two videos give a good overview of what day programs are about!

WHO IS IT BEST FOR?

Since Day programs run over many hours they are generally best for people who are not going to school or employment regularly.
