Toolbox – What is Youth AOD Work?

For all Youth Workers and other Practitioners working with young people who use drugs and alcohol. This Toolbox takes the vast range of evidence and literature that supports Youth Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) work, and presents it for practitioners assisting young people to develop resilience and achieve their goal.

Youth AOD services work with young people and those involved in their care to reduce the immediate risk of harm associated with substance use and to establish viable alternatives to substance use as a way of meeting needs and coping with underlying issues.

Youth AOD work has as it’s focus the safety, health and well-being of young people, along with creating developmentally-conducive opportunities, and protecting future prospects.

The Youth AOD Toolbox takes the vast range of evidence and literature that supports youth alcohol and other drugs (AOD) work, and presents it in an easily navigated and practical way.

The skills, resources and information in this Toolbox are for the use of youth-workers and supervisors providing AOD services to young people.

The Toolbox can be used by newer workers who want to enrich or reinforce their knowledge, and by established workers who would like to add new skills or modalities.

The Toolbox is a continuing project and is in constant development. More modules and content continue to be developed and existing content is added, edited and kept up to date.
