This course asks participants to bring their personality, skills, experiences, doubts, and goals into the room and contribute to the course fully, just as we ask young people to do when they enter treatment.

Youth AOD Frameworks Course 2018

Unique opportunity to participate in specialist training in effective, evidence-based practice in the Youth AOD field

The Youth AOD Frameworks course offers a hands-on opportunity for AOD practitioners to immerse themselves in theory and current best practice.

The course is 5 days (over a 3 month period) direct training, plus half-day preparation for each class (podcasts, videos etc).

This course asks participants to bring their personality, skills, experiences, doubts, and goals into the room and contribute to the course fully, just as we ask young people to do when they enter treatment. The content of the course is designed to give participants experiences which are directly translatable back to their work with young people – it is experiential, reflective, challenging; with new learning and insights resulting.

Main topics covered in the course:

  • Adolescent Development
    - Vulnerabilty
    - Reslience
    - Developmentally Responsive Practice
  • Relationship Based Practice
    - Attachment
    - Trauma
    - Intentionality
    - Boundaries and self
  • Drugs
    - History and policy
    - Pharmacology
    - Function and Meaning
    - Harm Reduction

As this course has quite a high demand on time (approximately 1.5 days per fortnight, and a total time commitment equivalent to between 8 – 9 days over a 3 month period), it is essential that every participant has the full endorsement of their manager and team to ensure they are given the time and support required for successful completion of the course. Therefore, the application process will include a commitment from both the potential participant and their manager.

See dates below for schedule of activites.

The goal of creating this course is to ensure consistent, evidence-informed practice in the Youth AOD sector. This is a pilot course and is funded and supported by DHHS Workforce Development.
