The YoDAA network allows the sharing of contemporary news and trends from those actually doing the work. Three separate Youth AOD services have recently reported young people using synthetic cannabis in a very thought-out and strategic way.

Several Victorian youth AOD services from the YoDAA network have reported young people making strategic decisions about their use of synthetic cannanbis. Services have reported some young people using synthetic varieties because of its accessibility (they can buy it over the counter), because they don’t have to risk their reputation by being caught/seen with a dealer, and because of the novelty value. Interestingly young people believed synthetic cannabis was legal. Equally as interesting, the same young people were reporting they did not intend on using synthetic cannabis long-term because they preferred the effects of natural cannabis (some reporting synthetic cannabis makes them physically ill) or they’re finding they have significantly worse mental health issues.
