There are particular things to consider when exploring safety as well as harms of drug or alcohol use with young people.

For instance, educating young people about long term consequences of drugs can be less effective because it is developmentally appropriate for young people to think more in immediate timeframes rather than the long term.  Similarly, adolescence is a stage of development when young people tend to look to their peers as a reference point. So, exploring immediate social consequences of drug or alcohol rather than long term physical harms can be more effective.

In light of this, The Global Drug Survey have released a new online survey for people to explore their alcohol use by answering questions specifically related to embarrassing situations alcohol use has caused.

The tool is designed to be fun, is not diagnostic and allows users to invite their friends to also anonymously rate them.  It may be a great, friendly and non-threatening way for young people to begin to explore their drinking behaviour.
