Local suicide prevention charity OzHelp Foundation has partnered with ConNetica, the Salvation Army's Hope for Life program and the National Institute of Mental Health Research at the Australian National University to create a new initiative called Lifeboat, which focuses on suicide prevention rather than crisis intervention.

With more than 50 Australians a week taking their own lives, Lifeboat argues that suicide needs to be tackled 'upstream' before dispair deepens into suicidal ideation.

OzHelp chief executive Tony Holland in describing Lifeboat said, "These are not programs for mental health professionals, these are programs for mums, dads, co-workers, coaches, you and I, to give a better understanding of how to keep our world suicide safe,"
